The issue is that the file you are downloading is a single file in .zip format, so your device doesn’t recognise it. You will need to get an app to extract the zip file if you want to download it on your device. There are plenty of free ones available on the App Store or Play Store and a lot are included with download managers which are also helpful in locating where the actual downloaded file is located.
To make our downloads simpler and quicker we often combine pdf files into a single downloadable Zip file. Normally your standard native application on your PC or Mac will be able to extract the downloaded zip file without any issues. Sometimes though, usually due to file name limitations in Windows you need a slightly more advance app to extract your zip file.
We recommend using 7Zip. This is a free app that has been an industry standard for many years, and tends to handle all zip extractions with ease. Here is a link to download it:
If you are still having issues you should raise a support ticket from our homepage or your account dashboard and we will do our best to help you.
This may be due to limitations with your Windows operating system. Windows limits the maximum character length in a file to 250 and so sometimes this causes errors when using Winzip to extract a zip file.
Here is a link to downlaod 7Zip, it is free and this is a great extraction app which should be able to extract your download for you without issue as it automatically shortens the character length whilst extracting the file:
When you completed checkout you were given an order summary and your download link was in that order summary. You will also have been sent an email instantly with your link included, please check your Spam and Junk folders as it may have found it’s way there. This error is because VMWare Fusion has not been given permission to run in your personal settings on your Mac.
Open VMWare Fusion and start your manual. You will get the error of loading the vmmon kernel module.
Close VMWare Fusion.
Go To ‘System Preferences’ >> ‘Security & Privacy’ >> Check if you are allowed to run apps from identified developers and there is no mentioning of a block application.
VMWare Fusion will probably be blocked, and after allowing it, the problem with the kernel module should be resolved.
VMWare Player Questions
When you are running your virtual machine for the first time there will probably be a couple of pop-up boxes telling you it cannot find a disc drive or hard drive connected, or the graphics rendering might not be fast enough. Don’t worry about any of these, simply choose the option which forces the program to continue, and it will all start successfully.
If you get this message it is most probably because you have an underpowered PC which is struggling to run the virtual PC environment. To fix this you will need to uninstall the version included with your manual and install an older version of the VMware player that is more suitable for your PC.
Step 1 – Go to your control panel and under the add or remove programs section you need to select VMware player and uninstall it. Then restart your PC.
Step 2 – Download and install an alternative VMware player from here, all versions are free for personal use.
Step 3 – Once the new player has been installed you will need to edit the configuration file of the manual you have downloaded in order for it to be compatible with the older version of the VMware player software, don’t worry it’s very easy.
Locate the “Virtual Machine” folder where all of your manual files are located. You now need to find the “VMware Virtual Machine Configuration” file (this has a an icon next to it that looks like 3 blue windows overlayed over each other). Right click it and choose to open it with notepad (don’t set this as the default program though).
Locate the following text:
virtualHW.version = “9”
Now change it to:
virtualHW.version = “7”
Save it and close it making sure you kept the file in the same format (.vmdk).
Step 4 – You can now double click the configuration file and it will open your new version of the VMware player which should now run correctly.
VMware player is a software application that creates a virtual PC on your operating system. There are many advantages to using this kind of software including making the installation of a workshop manual very easy and providing a layer of security by creating a ring-fenced PC environment for your workshop manual installation.
This short guide will explain how to install VMware player on your PC. Full installation instructions are also included with your download or DVD.
If you need to, you can download VMware player from here.
If you have downloaded your manual, extract the downloaded file using winrar (you can download it here).
If you have purchased the DVD option you will need to create a folder on your desktop and copy the entire contents of each of the DVD’s into that folder. Then right click each part and choose Winrar to extract them.
Once extracted you will have all the files ready to go. Now, double click the vmwareplayer.exe file. Once the installation box appears click Next. Then select your destination folder and click Next. Uncheck “Check for product updates on startup” and click Next. Uncheck “Help improve VMware Player” and click Next, and then click Next again. Now click Continue. Once installed, click “Restart Now”.
Once restarted, start the application via the Desktop or Start Menu and select “Yes, I accept the terms in the license agreement” and click OK.
Now that you have installed VMware Player, you need to point it at the image file.
Open VMware player by double clicking the “VMware Player” icon on the desktop or Start Menu. Allow VMware Player to load and the menu screen will load. Click the “Open a Virtual Machine” and navigate to the VM folder and in that folder will be a file with the name “VIRTUAL MACHINE”. In the left pane will be the name of the manual you are about to open. In the right pane, click the “Play virtual machine” link.
If you get a message asking you whether you “moved it” or “copied it”, simply select “moved it” and OK. A virtual machine of “Windows XP” is now loading. Once loaded, it will automatically login. Follow the Quick Start Guide on the desktop to run the manual.
If you get this error you are trying to run the VMware player directly on the DVD. You can’t do this as the VMware player needs to write information to the files. Please ensure you have copied the contents of the DVD to a folder on your desktop before running the player.
This is a common error due to a small installation mistake. When you first ran the VMWare player and opened your manual, a dialog box popped up asking if you have “Moved it or Copied it”, you have selected “I copied it” (which it prompts you to accept if you don’t know the answer). This causes the error you now have.
The quickest fix is to delete the manual, and start again. To do this, go to the folder where you extracted your .rar files (were you opened your manual from in the VMWare player) and delete all the files.
Now, re-extract your manual to a new folder, then open it from the VMWare player again, and this time it will ask you the moved it question again and be sure to select “I moved it”. This will fix the error and your manual will be working fine.
This error is caused because because you don’t have virtualization turned on in your Bios.
Rather than try and explain how to fix this here, there is a great, easy to understand guide here:
This guides you through how to do it. Once this is done your manual will load up without issue.
Windows Questions
Yes. Most of the workshop manuals are in PDF format. Any manuals which are not, run in a virtual PC environment which is compatible with all windows operating systems including Windows 7, 8 and 10 including 32 and 64 Bit machines.
