Installation Guide
Here you will find some help installing your workshop manual. We supply two kinds of manual; a “PDF” manual and a “Software” Manual. Each listing will advise you which type of manual it is and whether it is compatible with whatever you want to run it on. If you have purchased a PDF manual, then your installation process is simple. It will either be in PDF format or it will be contained in a .zip file which you need to extract to get to your PDF files
All PCs and Macs have a built in zip extractor so you should be fine extracting your download, in some cases you may have issues though, so we recommend using 7Zip to extract your .zip PDF download, this is a powerful free tool that you can download from here.
If you have downloaded it on a smartphone or tablet there are plenty of free Apps in the Play or App store for extracting a .zip file. To read a PDF file you need a PDF reader, again just about all PCs and Macs, smartphones and Tablets have a built in PDF reader these days so you shouldn’t need to do anything other than open it.
The following instructions are for the larger “Virtual Machine” Software manuals.
If your workshop manual is in .vbox or .OVA format then please click here and follow the VirtualBox installation instructions. Otherwise please follow the VMWare instructions below.
VMWare Player and VMWare Fusion Installation Guide
If you have purchased your manual on USB Stick, the chances are the files below will be located on the USB stick, so it’s worth looking there before having to download them from here. Ok, let’s get started.
Quick Start Check List
For PC’s you will need:
For Mac’s you will need:
- Keka – download it from here. Or The Unarchiver direct from the Appstore here.
- VMWare Fusion For Macs – download it from here.
Your workshop manual has been pre-installed for you on a virtual copy of Windows. This makes it very easy to run on any PC or Mac and saves you the bother of a complicated installation process.
PC Installation
If you have purchased a download, once it has completed you need to extract the download using 7Zip (there is a link to download it above). If your download was in multiple parts you need to make sure all the parts are in the same location and then ONLY EXTRACT PART 1, as the files are linked and all the parts will extract automatically. Choose the location where you are going to extract your download, as this will be where your manual will reside, so make sure you have enough space and it is easy to find (like your desktop or a dedicated folder).
If you have purchased a USB stick manual then all the files will be on the stick ready to go and you can run the manual from the USB stick.
Install the VMWare Player app (links above) and restart your PC. Once restarted, start the application and click the “Open a Virtual Machine” and go to the folder you created/extracted on your desktop and open the VM folder (or VIRTUAL MACHINE folder). In that folder will be a file (with an icon like linked blue windows) with the name “VM” or “VIRTUAL MACHINE” or something like “Peugeot_WSM”. In the left pane will be the name of the manual you are about to open. In the right pane, click the “Play virtual machine” link.
IMPORTANT: You will get a message asking you whether you “moved it” or “copied it”, YOU MUST SELECT “I moved it” and OK.
A virtual machine of Windows XP or Windows 7 will load. Once loaded follow the Quick Start Guide on the desktop to run the manual.
Mac Installation
If you have purchased a download, once it has completed you need to extract the download using either Keka (there is a link to download it above).
A quick note about Apps not from the App Store, to install Keka and VMWare Fusion you may need to temporarily adjust your security settings as they are not being downloaded from the Appstore. To do this go to System Preferences then Security & Privacy then click the padlock in the bottom left and allow apps to be installed that have not been downloaded from the Appstore.
Download and install VMWare Fusion (and for download manuals Keka) There are links above. If you have purchased a download, extract the workshop manual .rar file or part 1 .rar if it is in multiple parts and the whole manual will extract leaving you a folder ready to use. If you purchased a USB stick then your manual is ready to go with our requiring extraction and you can run it from the USB stick.
Now open the workshop manual folder and inside open the “VIRTUAL MACHINE” or “VM” folder, and locate the “.vmx” file (it has a red and blue icon) and double click it. This will run the virtual machine that will host your workshop manual. Click through any error messages that may pop up, this won’t affect the workshop manual loading.
IMPORTANT: You will get a message asking you whether you “moved it” or “copied it”, you must select “I moved it” and OK.
A virtual machine of Windows XP or Windows 7 will load up. Once loaded follow the Quick Start Guide on the desktop to run the manual.
